Filming for our new series “JetSet” began in earnest in January with Alex and Gillian flying north to a wintry Stockholm to wine and dine in the city and on the river, staying in a cool design hotel built into a converted Royal Marine barracks (http://bit.ly/1t81Xq2).
In between night time shopping and ice skating, our crew took in some art in the design museum, filmed from the top of Europe’s largest globe and checked out one of the many Swedish spas before hopping on a plane to Kiruna, Sweden’s northernmost town to film the world famous Ice Hotel (http://www.icehotel.com/). Filming in minus 12 degrees from the back of a Skidoo was a bit of a challenge, but the stunning Ice Hotel more than made up for the cold fingers!
The Ice Hotel is re-built each year from snow and ice blocks taken from the nearby Torne River, with artists from all over the world designing different rooms – for the experience you can stay in the hotel itself or one of the chalets on the site and each year the hotel melts and returns to the River in an endless cycle. The crew managed to cram a full filming schedule into some very short daylight hours – before retiring to the Ice Bar of course
